The guru puja of Marudhu Brothers went off peacefully with only 134 vehicles from different districts passing through the Silaiman check-post here on the way to the memorial in Sivaganga district on Sunday.
The police had fine-tuned the security arrangements provided for the Immanuel Sekaran Memorial Day last month, Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan said.
Based on the intelligence inputs, deployment of police at sensitive places was strengthened en route to Sivaganga, he added. “Only vehicles with passes were allowed at the Silaiman check-post.
Except for a tourist vehicle that managed to get pass meant only for own vehicles, this time the security arrangement was better. Even that vehicle returned after going half the distance after men instructed the occupants to do so,” he said.
Additional videographers and closed circuit television cameras were put up at the check- posts to monitor the vehicles. The police action of registering cases against leaders and seizure of vehicles during the Immanuel Sekaran guru puja last month led to the number of vehicles dwindling to 131 this year from 400 that passed through the Silaiman check-post in 2012, the police said.
Scores of people, most of them youth, garlanded the Marudhu Brothers’ statue near Teppakulam. Many performed milk abishekams on the statues.
