The Madurai Rural police on Thursday arrested M. Mahendran of Kallandiri on the charge of attempt to grab three acres of land by producing fake documents and through intimidation.

According to a police press release, the accused, along with Nagaraj of Parali, had prepared a forged sale deed for the land belonging to a resident of Lake Area, which said that Rs. five lakh had been paid as advance.

A legal notice was sent to the owner of the land, Habiba A. Kani, demanding the sale of land by accepting the price for it. A reply was sent for the notice, stating that they did not negotiate with anybody to sell the land.

Mahendran, along with Nagaraj, is alleged to have threatened Faisal Omar, the son in-law of Habiba, with weapons, asking him to sell the land, on October 30 at the M. Chatrapatti bus stand. Based on a complaint lodged with the police by Faisal, Mahendran was arrested and remanded in custody.
