A 35-year-old man, B. Ambigapathy, of Mathichiyam, was hacked to death at Shenoy Nagar by an unidentified gang on Friday afternoon.

Police said that the deceased, a former history-sheeter with Mathichiyam police station, was riding a two-wheeler in Vaidhyanatha Iyer Street when he was waylaid and hacked indiscriminately. The gang had inflicted multiple cut and stab injuries on him and left him in a pool of blood in front of the office of Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education. The incident occurred around 1 p.m.

The police, who found a long knife, a pair of chappals and some locks of hair at the scene of crime, held enquiries at nearby commercial establishments.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) A. Radhika inspected the scene of crime. This is the third murder reported in the city since Wednesday.
