A 30-year-old man P. Raja of M. Chockalingapuram was killed after a wild boar hit him on his lower abdomen on Sunday.

Initially, Raja’s friend Kaliappan had claimed that the boar attacked him while Raja was involved in irrigation works at his farm in M. Chockalingapuram under M. Pudupatti police station limits.

He claimed that the incident took place at around 5 a.m. and Raja was rushed to the Government Hospital in Virudhunagar where he died. However, during interrogation, Kaliappan was said to have made contradictory statements.

Later, the police said that Kaliappan had reportedly spilled the beans that the incident had occurred in an irrigation tank near Kalligudi in Madurai district. The police suspected that the duo had gone out for hunting and Raja got injured when the wild boar attacked him.

Police sources said that Kaliappan was handed over to Kalligudi police station for further investigation.
