Chief Commissioner of Income Tax A. Suryanarayanan has appealed to the tax payers to use Form 26 AS registration online.

Speaking at an awareness meeting conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) here, he said that the Form 26 AS was a consolidated statement giving details of TDS, TCS, advance tax, self-assessment tax and regular assessment tax of an assessee/PAN holder. Any assessee could view these details on the websites – >www.incometaxindia.gov.in and >www.tin_nsdl.com .

Before filing the return of income tax, tax payers could view and confirm the TDS/TCS among others paid during the financial year. If there was any discrepancies, they could take corrective steps in time. This would solve problems during processing of returns, Mr. Suryanarayanan said.

Commissioner of Income Tax M. Krishnasamy said that the awareness campaign was aimed at making more assessees view tax credits in Form 26 AS.

The Department of Income Tax urged deductors/collectors to file e-TDS returns promptly and accurately and assist officials in serving the tax payers in a better way. Bankers were also told to upload the digitised information correctly to TIN central system.

ICAI Madurai branch chairman T. Thavamani and secretary A. Mohamed Khan spoke, a press release said.
