Awareness camp on dengue prevention conducted for SHGs
District Collector Anshul Mishra has said that mosquito control must become a movement in Madurai and people’s active participation is vital in eradication of dengue.
“What we are witnessing now (dengue outbreak) is a crisis for us, but let us take it as an opportunity to fight it. Keep your houses clean and avoid water stagnation,” he advised while addressing the members of various Self Help Groups in the district here on Saturday.
An awareness camp for SHG members on mosquito control and dengue prevention was organised jointly by Mahalir Thittam and Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) to educate them on public health aspects.
Reiterating that mosquito control activity should become a mass movement, the Collector urged people in rural areas to approach the panchayat presidents and ask them to take up sanitation measures.
“Since dengue is a major challenge now, pull up your panchayat president if they don’t respond. Doing cleanliness activity is their duty and we have already given instructions,” he added.
Mr. Anshul Mishra urged the people to use mosquito nets/mosquito bats at home and to remove all mosquito breeding sources. S. Senthilkumar, Deputy Director of Health Services, Madurai district, and other officials were present at the awareness camp.
