A large number of devotees witnessed the ‘mahasamprokshanam' (consecration) of the Prasanna Venkatachalapathy Temple at Tallakulam here on Monday.

The temple has been renovated at an estimated cost of Rs.45 lakh.

Temple priests sprinkled holy water on the ‘kalasams' of the gopuram and vimanam of the temple amid chanting of Vedas and singing of Divya Prabandam.

Those who participated in the ceremony included the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister K. R. Periakaruppan, the Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister A. Tamilarasi, K. S. K. Rajendran, MLA, S. Kalyani, executive officer, and members of the board of trustees.

The last consecration of the temple was performed in 1996.
