Madurai rank goes down

It slips from 14 to 17; Plus Two pass percentage stands at 92.46 this year

With an overall pass percentage of 92.46 this year, Plus Two State Board results in Madurai saw a slight drop when compared to 2017 where an overall pass percentage of 93.61% was recorded.

The district slipped by three ranks - from 14 to 17 - this year.

A total of 38,033 students appeared from Madurai, Melur and Usilampatti and 35,164 passed the examination. Keeping with the trend, girls outscored the boys in terms of pass percentage. Girls secured 96.45% pass while boys secured 88.12% pass.

According to the data provided by officials from the school education department, 89 out of 304 schools secured cent per cent pass. Matriculation schools achieved more cent per cent pass than others.

Corporation schools and Kallar schools recorded a pass percentage of 93.12% and 94.07% respectively. Four Kallar schools recorded cent per cent pass and showed improvement from last year’s record.

No corporation school scored cent per cent pass. Pass percentage alone increased from 92. 76 to 93.12 this year.

Railway schools proved that there was a marked increase by 16.87% from 2017. The improvement from 77.57% to 94.44% proved that significant changes in teaching methodology have helped them this year.

The school education department did not announce the names of toppers this year.

The total number of centum scorers in various subjects plummeted from 1,136 last year to 598 this year, a sharp dip compared to the last two years.

Highest number of centum scorers were in Accountancy this year followed by Commerce. As most students were intimated about their results via SMS and through the Net, schools did not see any crowd.
