A policeman was arrested on charges of theft as he was allegedly found to have stolen gold jewels from the residence of two woman police in the Sixth Battalion campus. Following a complaint from women police Ammachi and Kalaiarasi that nine sovereigns of gold jewelleries were missing in their dwellings, Tallakulam police registered a case.
Investigations suggested that Prabhakar Mani, a policeman, also residing in the third floor of the Sixth Battalion campus had committed the crime. Based on his confession, Inspector Nagarajan recovered the jewelleries from the accused and produced him before a judicial magistrate. The property was valued at Rs 2.05 lakh.
Other cases
In another two cases, the Tallakulam police arrested Ambedmuthu (31) son of Pandi of Mudakathan after he confessed to having stolen six mobile phones from the residence of a woman, Muthu Pandiammal of Mullai Nagar, Kannappar Street. The accused had also stolen a laptop belonging to Saravanan in Rajaji Street of BB Kulam, worth Rs 25,000.
The police arrested a young woman identified as Ramani (31), wife of late Kannan, of Valasur Salem district after she was found to have stolen a five sovereign gold chain from a woman passenger Shanti (39) of Karur district when she was travelling from Karur to Madurai recently. Sellur Inspector of Police Balasubramanian recovered the property. As the accused was carrying an infant, the co-passengers had not suspected her.
Two persons R. Vinod (31) of Tiruchi and K. Mayakannan (23) of Kalligudi, Madurai were held on charges of waylaying a pedestrian Ganesan of Aviyur Virudhunagar district. Anna Nagar police Inspector Murugadasson arrested the accused and recovered Rs 500 from them.
