Commissioner of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy and senior IAS official T.N. Ramanathan, who has been deputed to oversee the steps taken by authorities following dengue outbreak in Madurai district, held a review meeting with the officials in Madurai on Wednesday.
Collector Anshul Mishra explained the action taken in various places in the past 10 to 15 days and the steps taken to prevent the disease from spreading any further. Wherever cases of high incidence of fever were reported, the health department officials visited the hamlets and carried out fogging operations. Similarly, the Government Rajaji Hospital Dean, N. Mohan, detailed on the progress of the in-patients admitted in the hospital for dengue treatment. There were two fatalities so far including the one admitted here from Sivaganga district, officials said.
The Corporation Commissioner, R. Nanthagopal, and his team of officers spoke at the meeting about the action taken to prevent dengue in the different wards. The officials are on total vigil in the city, he asserted.
Mr. Ramanathan told the officials to ensure that there were no complaints of water contamination. By conducting campaigns through schools, the message of preventing dengue would reach the masses, he suggested.
Speaking to reporters, he said that vulnerable areas where water logging was possible would be monitored. The storage of water in containers was dangerous as it could cause harm, he underlined and wanted the media also to campaign vigorously on the prevention aspects.
When asked whether dengue could be cured through homeopathy, he said, whoever had faith on it may go ahead as experts had come out with successful results. A couple of homeopathy medicines like “santha sandrodayam” “Madhulai Manapaahu” was recommended by homeopathy practitioners.
Later, in the evening, Mr. Ramanathan visited Melur and a few hamlets accompanied by Mr. Anshul Mishra and Health Department officials, a spokesman said.
