The objective of the two-day State-level conclave of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), ‘Thamarai Sangamam,' starting here on April 28, would be to bring ‘lotus rule' in Tamil Nadu and New Delhi, said the party's State president, Pon. Radhakrishnan, on Tuesday.
Addressing a news conference at the venue of the conference on the Ring Road near here, Mr. Radhakrishnan said that the congregation in Madurai would mean an upturn in State politics. The BJP, he pointed out, had improved its tally in the local body elections — from winning in 397 places in 2006 to 804 in 2011.
It held two municipalities while the Congress or the Pattali Makkal Katchi could not get one.
On the possible alliance in the next Lok Sabha elections, Mr. Radhakrishnan said that the party would take decisions on the basis of the prevailing political scenario at a given point of time. However, the fifth State conference, ‘Thamarai Sangamam,' would mean the beginning of preparations for Lok Sabha polls.
Accusing the Centre of betraying Tamils of Sri Lanka, Mr. Radhakrishnan objected to the absence of representatives of Communist Party of India and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi in the high-level MPs' team, led by BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, to visit Colombo this month. He said that all parties of Tamil Nadu should have a representation in the team.
The conference would be held on a 63-acre complex, which could hold around five lakh people. Seating arrangements had been made for one lakh people. Senior leaders such as L. K. Advani, Nitin Gadkari, and Sushma Swaraj would attend the deliberations on April 29. Every delegate would be registered and security provided for the venue by the BJP cadres, along with policemen. The movement of all those attending the conference would be watched and the entire complex kept neat and clean by party volunteers.
An exhibition, featuring the party's growth in each district of Tamil Nadu and showcasing the achievements of BJP-ruled States, along with products from Tirupur, Karur, Salem and Erode, which would be sold at cost price, would remain open for public view till April 30.
Several yatras and torch relays would be taken from all over the State to the conference venue, he added.
