The second edition of The Madurai Marathon to be conducted by Devadoss Multispeciality Hospitals is all set to begin on January 7. Doctors from the hospital inaugurated the run with the tagline ‘Let’s run to make a healthy nation’ here on Saturday.

It would see over 2,000 participants, said the organisers.

According to the hospital founder, A. Devadoss, and R. Sudhir, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, fitness is fundamental to healthy life.

They educated the audience on the slew of diseases that could be caused due to poor physical health. Savithri Devadoss spoke on the history of marathons and their relevance in today’s world.

Men and women can participate in this half marathon for 21 km and 12 km respectively. A ‘Fun Marathon’ which is open to people of all ages will be held too. Prizes worth ₹ 2 Lakh are to be distributed. Interested members can register online at http://www.themaduraimarathon.com or visit Devadoss Hospital. The Hindu is the media partner for the event.
