Vice-Chancellor Kalyani Mathivanan has instructed officials not to allow unauthorised persons into the building.

Entry into building housing the offices of the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) wing of Madurai Kamaraj University will be restricted soon to prevent malpractices.

Vice-Chancellor Kalyani Mathivanan has instructed officials not to allow unauthorised persons into the building.

At a meeting she had with the staff on Wednesday, she said the DDE was in total disarray. As the first step towards taking corrective measures, entry into the building would be restricted.

Those without proper identity would not be allowed inside, she told The Hindu on Thursday.

The DDE would be divided into sections and a teaching staff would monitor each section.

With a view to streamlining despatch and distribution of study material, it had been decided that hereafter representatives of the MKU study centres in the State must come to the university to collect them for distribution to students. Bundles of books were strewn around in corridors and rooms. They were not despatched to study centres properly, she said.

The Vice-Chancellor said she took the initiative to appoint teaching staff for distance education courses and 24 faculty members were appointed in December.
