A section of the staff of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) staged a demonstration inside the Regional office premises at Chinna Chokkikulam here on Friday, condemning the suspension of an assistant.

The assistant, M. Raju, was reportedly suspended by a senior officer on Friday morning for mentioning the name of the former Regional Commissioner in a document, instead of the incumbent official. Irked by Mr. Raju’s suspension, nearly 300 employees of the EPFO boycotted work and staged a demonstration.

They later withdrew their protest in the evening based on an assurance given by another senior official that the issue will be looked into and sorted out.

Despite attempts to contact senior officers, they refused to respond to the media persons waiting outside the EPF premises. Police picket was posted as a precaution.
