A mental health hospital has come up in a new building constructed for community health centre

Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa, inaugurated a mental health and de-addiction centre in Kodikulam on Friday. The 15-bed facility is the first mental health centre in the State to be run by any Corporation, he said.

The hospital has come up in a new building constructed for community health centre. Besides, a psychiatrist, a pharmacist, two nurses and two other workers have been posted here.

He added that the centre would also provide pre-marriage counselling and counselling to prevent suicides. An electro convulsive therapy facility is also available here.

Initially, the beds would be used for the patients who come for de-addiction treatment. The out-patient psychiatric treatment would be provided between 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Later, the Mayor distributed gold worth Rs. 1.92 crore under the marriage assistance scheme to 462 beneficiaries.

Commissioner R. Nanthagopal, said that the marriage assistance scheme was aimed at promoting women’s education.

MLAs A. K. Bose, Tamilarasan, Deputy Mayor R. Gopalakrishnan, Zonal Chairpersons K. Jeyavel, P. Salaimuthu, K. Rajapandian, and M. Rajapandian, City Engineer (in-charge) A. Madhuram, and Corporation Chief Health Officer (in-charge) Priyaraj, were among those who were present.
