With an aim to turn Madurai into an industrial hub, the Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (Maditssia) will hold a three-day buyer-seller meet here from May 8.
Addressing the media, Maditssia president V.S.Manimaran and event chairman J.Ashok said the event, now into its fourth edition and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and other government agencies, would help showcase the products manufactured in different cities. “We are providing a platform for all the participants, who also include government organisations,” they said.
Explaining the objective of the meet, they said Maditssia was providing space for both manufacturers and service providers to interact with one another about the products and the target markets. The important thing is that small entrepreneurs and big manufacturers were getting an opportunity to come together under one roof to explore avenues of achieving synergy.
Tiny entrepreneurs and one-man-operated firms had to grab a share for themselves in a market characterised by stiff competition, they pointed out.
Mr.Manimaran said there were a number of small-scale units in the southern districts, which could directly enter into agreements with buyers without depending on middlemen. Major buyers too would benefit from this arrangement as they could interact with the sellers from Madurai and other regions, and study the business potential here. Further, the meet would help attract more investment in the manufacturing sector, Mr.Manimaran asserted.
Major manufacturing units run by the Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals, Heavy Water Plant, Southern Railway, Port Trust of India, BSNL and Tangedco will be among the participants. Private sector players such as Sundaram Fasteners and Fenner India too would be present.
Principal Secretary to Government and TIDCO Chairman Hans Raj Varma will inaugurate the event, they added.
