Loyola College, Chennai, emerged as the champions of Bishop Dr.A.Christopher Asir Memorial first State-level inter-collegiate hockey tournament held at American College hockey grounds here on Friday.

In the three-day tournament that culminated on Friday, Loyola College registered a 2-1 win against D.B.Jain College, Chennai. Fourteen teams from Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Rajapalayam, Sivakasi, Tirunelveli and various teams from Madurai participated in the event.

In the valedictory function, M.Davamani Christober, Principal of American College, welcomed the gathering. CSI Bishop and president of the Governing Council, American College, Retd Rev.Dr M.Joseph presided over the function. J.Bennet Abraham, Treasurer, CSI Synod, Chennai, was the chief guest.

Seethalakahmi, Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Madurai, distributed prizes.

The winning team received Bishop Dr.A.Christopher Asir Memorial trophy and a cash award of Rs.10,000, and the runners-up received Rajamannar Memorial trophy and a cash award of Rs.8,000.

Dr.Chester Manuel, Bursar of the college, proposed a vote of thanks. Balakrishnan, Physical Director, students and teaching staff of the college were present.
