The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has rescheduled the load shedding pattern between February and April to facilitate the smooth conduct of Standard X and XII public examinations.

A list of all the government, aided and private schools in the district that are going to host the public examinations has been submitted to the TANGEDCO Madurai Region by the Chief Educational Officer. The TANGEDCO Madurai Region comprises Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts.

According to officials, load shedding for the feeders that supply power to examination venues has been rescheduled to either 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. or 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., timings that would not coincide with examinations. This arrangement would be in effect from February 2 to April 23.

However, the officials informed that Education Department that day-long power shutdowns for scheduled maintenance works in sub-stations could not be averted. Also, during these shutdowns, power supply to that area could not be re-routed through another sub-station.

They have drawn up a list of sub-stations where maintenance works have been scheduled and have informed the schools coming under these sub-stations to make alternative power arrangements for that day.

In Madurai district, a total of 162 schools are hosting the public examinations. In Madurai Metro Circle, which covers the Corporation limits, a total of 79 schools would be hosting the practical examinations.
