The Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India wound up its week-long celebrations to mark its 57 year anniversary with a valedictory function at the LIC of India, Divisional Office, at Sellur on Saturday.

Speaking at the function, Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan said that Life Insurance also deserved to be called ‘Livelihood Insurance’ as the LIC helped several families survive the loss of earning members.

“The network and the reach that the LIC has in rural areas deserve to be lauded. They are determined to ‘think big’ and this is best reflected in their success,” said Mr.Balakrishnan. He equated the role of employees who managed life insurance to that of the police who too were responsible for saving the lives of the public.

Senior Divisional Manager M. Govindaraju detailed the growth of the LIC across the country and its strong market position.

“We wanted to involve the LIC community in the anniversary celebrations and thus organised a week of competitions and events for the employees and their families,” he said.

The celebrations started on September 2 with a formal inaugural ceremony. Drawing competitions on the theme of “A clean and green environment” were conducted for the children of the LIC staff and school students.

The staff members also participated in a rangoli competition.
