Lawyers should do research before presenting a case in the court as it will help judges deliver better verdicts, said Justice M. Jaichandren of the Madras High Court here on Saturday.
At the inaugural function of a law seminar, he said, “The young lawyers need to equip themselves with soft skills. The Bar association should take steps to train them by conducting more such seminars.”
Referring to the issue over the use of Tamil as the official language of the High Court, Justice Jaichandren said, “We are not opposed to the use of Tamil in the High Court. In fact, it is our mother tongue. The Madras High Court had even adopted a resolution to make Tamil the official language during the tenure of former Chief Justice A.P. Shah.”
On the drawbacks of Indian judiciary, he said there were several factors that caused delay in delivering justice. He urged the State to provide adequate machinery for courts, appoint more judges and provide better infrastructure.
“If courts don’t give justice to the common man in time, then there will be anarchy,” he added.
Earlier, S. Veeranasamy, president, Lawyers Association of Madurai District Court, and K. Thirumalai Raj, founder-senior president of the Association, welcomed the gathering.
