Law student-candidate promises change

April 20, 2014 02:24 pm | Updated May 21, 2016 12:28 pm IST - MADURAI:

Feeling disillusioned by political parties in the country, a section of youngsters in Madurai has chosen to field a 27-year-old law student from the city in the Lok Sabha elections.

Manikandeswaran (27), who grew up in the Temple City, is competing with political stalwarts from DMK, AIADMK and other national parties.

Currently pursuing his law degree at the Madurai Law College, this youngster vows to transform the educational system and place Madurai on the world map. “To pursue my passion to serve the country, I quit my high-paid job in an MNC and joined an IAS academy in Delhi. There, I learnt how corrupt politicians use IAS officers as puppets. Hence, I realised that we need the power to serve the society at large, which is why I decided to enter politics” said Manikandeswaran.
