“I wish to become an environmental scientist and use my knowledge of natural sciences to protect my environment,” said Narasimhan, a Class 11 student of Kendriya Vidyalaya school, Madurai, during a demonstration of his model on treating effluents at the regional science exhibition which got under way here on Tuesday.
Narasimhan’s project was among several featured at the two-day exhibition. This year, the science exhibition highlighted the themes of agriculture, resources, energy, environment and health.
Vignesh R. Nair, a Class 11 student of KV, Chennai, demonstrated how electricity is produced from weeds. Srinidhi Narayanan, a Class 12 student of KV, Madurai, presented his concept of zero budget farming, while Apsara, a Class 9 student of KV, Tiruchi, showed how water can be purified using apple and banana peels.
Inaugurating the 41st KVS science fair, R.V.S.S. Subrahmanyam, Assistant Commissioner, KVS, RO, Chennai, said that the objective of organising the exhibition was to spot talent among the students and nurture it. He urged parents to identify the potential of their wards and to encourage them.
Over 40 KV school students from different parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are participating in the talent expo.
In his address, C. Chinnusamy, Dean, TNAU, Madurai, encouraged children to exchange ideas and acquire knowledge. Students of Kendriya Vidyalayas from across the State sat written tests for the national-level quiz competition to be held next year. “Scoring will be based on three parameters – originality, creativity and cost-effectiveness,” said Uma, a science teacher at KV Madurai.
The fair is open till Wednesday.
