Khadi sale launched

The Minister for Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare, A. Tamilarasi, marked the Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations by inaugurating the sale of khadi products at a showroom at West Masi Street here on Saturday.

Addressing the function, she said that last year khadi sales to the tune Rs. 1.38 crore was achieved.

The present Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime led by the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was giving a lot of importance to khadi products. The State Government has offered a rebate bring in a discount of 30 per cent for khadi products, 20 per cent for silk products and 30 per cent for polyster products, she said. The Minister also recalled the non-violent struggle undertaken by the Father of the Nation to achieve independence for the country.

G. Thenmozhi, Mayor, S.S. Ghouse Basha, Madurai Central Assembly Constituency MLA, Latha Athiaman, Tirumangalam Assembly Constituency MLA, P.Ashok Kumar, Chairman, District Panchayat and R. Jeyaraj, Regional Deputy Director, Khadi and Village Industries, took part.
