Stressing once again the danger caused by dengue and the need to keep the environment clean, Collector Anshul Mishra went around meeting people in Thumbaipatti and Kottampatti villages near here on Tuesday.

Last year, there were casualties from this belt and there was panic all around for many weeks due to dengue outbreak. The State Health Secretary visited a few villages. A battery of officials from Health and Family Welfare Department supervised the arrangements, and the Collector monitored the cleaning operations on a daily basis.

Keeping this in mind, Mr.Anshul went around the villages in Kottampatti block and spotted water stagnation in front of many dwellings. He asked womenfolk and children to keep the surroundings dry and ensure that water did not stagnate to avoid outbreak of dengue.

Unused utensils and broken plastic pots should be either abandoned or kept dry. Similarly, abandoned cycle tyres and tubes should be dumped in dustbins as fresh water collecting inside would help breeding of mosquitoes.

Earlier, the Collector enquired the officials about the progress in construction of a drinking water tank. He said the 5-km road connecting Thumbaipatti and Melavalavu at a cost of Rs.57.96 lakh would benefit the nearby villagers. He wanted officials to complete the work on schedule. He also instructed the engineers to collect samples of materials used for the work and send them to a test lab.
