Justice K.N. Basha of the Madras High Court released a book titled ‘Sattamum Samaniyanum’ (Law and the layman), in the High Court Bench campus here on Wednesday. It is a compilation of essays written by a lawyer Robert Chandrakumar on various social issues.

After handing over the first copy to M. Thirunavukarasu, president of Madurai Bench High Court Advocates’ Association, the judge exhorted young lawyers to emulate him. He urged them to acquire wide knowledge on social issues and come out with books on well- researched topics.

The judge also expressed surprise over the author having become a lawyer despite being born to poor parents who worked as labourers in a tea estate at Manjolai near Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli district. One of his essays was on the labour unrest in that tea estate.

The foreword for the book had been penned by Justice D. Hariparanthaman who had appreciated the range of topics covered, including Sumangali scheme, right to education, child rights, the agony faced by transgender, reservations for the disadvantaged, police atrocities, and death penalty.
