November 20, 2012 11:35 am | Updated 11:39 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

Three masked men took away valuables worth Rs. 12 lakh from a house after threatening the inmates.

The police said the trio, who entered the house of K. Subramanian (39) of Gomathi Nagar in Ilanji under Courtallam police station limits around 1.45 a.m. after breaking open the front door, threatened Mr. Subramanian and his wife Sangeetha at knifepoint and took away 51 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs. 10,500 in cash from them.

“When we refused, they threatened to kill our children, which forced us to give the valuables and the cash without any resistance,” Mr. Subramanian, a private firm employee, said. Superintendent of Police Vijayendra S. Bidari visited the spot.

Terror

Burglars, who are triggering terror among residents during the past few weeks, have burgled over 140 sovereigns of jewels and around Rs. 5 lakh in cash in three incidents.

But the police are still clueless about any of these crimes.
