Cadres of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam celebrated the comeback of their party supremo Jayalalithaa, who was sworn-in as Chief Minister of the State for the fifth time.
A stretch of Panagal Road where the party urban district unit is located was decked up with party flags, festoons and hoardings hailing Ms. Jayalalithaa for her victory in the legal battle over the disproportionate assets case. While senior party leaders, including the Minister, Mayor and MLAs away in Chennai to participate in the swearing-in ceremony, the councillors and other cadres celebrated with ‘mayilattam’ outside the party office.
They also distributed sweets to the members of public. Public address system belted out songs hailing Ms. Jayalalithaa.
Corporation Zone 1 Chairman, K. Rajapandian, who was on a fast, by skipping breakfast ever since the Special Court in Bengaluru, sentenced her in the DA case, took part in a Sandi yagam organised at the Veerakaliamman Temple.
“I had been avoiding non-vegetarian all these seven months and also visiting temples every day for her to return to power. The yagam that began on Friday evening came to an end as Amma took oath as Chief Minister,” he said.
