A bull, 35 persons injured in two jallikattu events

A bull that ran amok from the play field fell into a ground-level roadside open well at Pillamanaickenpatti near here on Wednesday With the help of local people, the Fire and Rescue Service personnel pulled the injured animal from the well. Later, the veterinary doctors treated it.

A total of 20 tamers were injured and treated at the medical camp at the village. Several bulls dominated the field, posing a grave threat to tamers. Elaborate arrangements were made for this event. With narrow play field, the bulls crossed the play area and ran into agri-fields near the exit point.

A total of 450 bulls from Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Pudukottai and Tiruchi districts and 400 tamers took part. The courageous tamers and bull owners were honoured with attractive prizes. Prizes worth ₹2 lakh were distributed to them.

As usual, tamers were divided into groups and allowed to play in batches. Sufficient force was deployed at the village to regulate the crowd and the tamers. Health officials conducted a special medical camp to treat injured tamers.

Around 15 persons, including 13 tamers, were injured in another jallikattu held at Iyyampalayam near Batlagundu the same day.

Three seriously injured persons were rushed to the Batlagundu Government Hospital.

After special pujas, a temple bull was allowed to enter the field through vadivasal as part of tradition.

Around 400 bulls from Dindigul, Marambadi, Sholavandhan, Theni, Chinnamnaur, Alanganallur Paalamedu, Madurai Sivaganga, Manaprai and Tiruchi took part.
