The hurling of petrol bombs on a car that was returning from Pasumpon on the day of Muthuramalinga guru puja on October 30 on Ring Road, in which 20 persons sustained burn injuries, was like the operation of Naxalites, Thevar outfits have complained to the police.

Led by the All India Moovendar Munnetra Kazhagam leader, G.M. Sridhar Vandaiyar, and All India Nationalist Forward Bloc founder P.T. Arasakumar, leaders of few Thevar outfits complained to Inspector General of Police (South Zone) Rajesh Das that people of a particular community were holding meetings and conspiring in two villages in Ramanathapuram district, one each in Virudhunagar and Madurai. “The way they stopped the vehicle and attacked the people inside the car looks like it was an operation led by people who had got Naxalite training,” Mr. Arasakumar said.

Stating that the several Thevar outfits had come together to protect their people, he said the police should book those behind the murder of three youths near Paramakudi under the Goondas Act.

Exemplary punishment should be given to the culprits involved in the incident so that it acts as a deterrent for such violent incidents that may take place during caste clashes in future, he said.
