Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president E.V.K.S. Elangovan and some of the office-bearers had neglected the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) in seat allocation, said senior INTUC leader K.S. Govindarajan here in the city on Thursday.
The Congress, in alliance with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam for the Assembly election, has been given 41 seats in the State. Two days ago, the party announced its candidates.
In Madurai, the party has been allotted Madurai North and Tirumangalam constituencies. V. Karthikeyan (39) and M. Jayaraman (51) were announced as the candidates for these seats respectively, much to the disappointment of many party functionaries.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Govindarajan said, “The INTUC, the backbone of the Congress, had been neglected. The party had recognised the INTUC in poll-bound West Bengal, Kerala and Assam by giving seats, but not in Tamil Nadu.” At the general body meeting of the INTUC in Chennai on April 24, a decision would be taken on this issue. He said that he had applied for Madurai North Assembly and attended the interview, but the party gave the ticket to an inexperienced person, said to be close to Su. Thirunavukarasar.
