The Madras High Court bench here has ordered an interim stay on construction of green houses near the Government High School in Vidathankulam in Tirumangalam block under a State Government scheme.
Justice N.Kirubakaran, who was hearing a petition filed by V.Ramamoorthy, a resident of Vidathankulam, passed the order.
In his petition, Mr. Ramamoorthy claimed that Vidathankulam village panchayat transferred five acres of land to the school in 2009 for construction of additional buildings for the school.
The resolution to transfer the land was communicated by the Chief Education Officer to the Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, but the land had not yet been given to the school, the petitioner added.
“After the communication was made to the government, the district revenue officials tried to allot the land to the Scheduled Caste people for construction of houses. A public interest litigation was filed at the High Court, following which the district administration announced that it would give the land to the school.
The land is used as a play ground from then on,” the petitioner told the court through his counsel.
According to him, the Revenue Divisional Officer issued an order on May 24, 2013, prohibiting the villagers from entering the land as the district administration proposed to construct green houses there.
The Tirumangalam Block Development Officer (BDO) had prepared a list of beneficiaries of the scheme and an order was passed on May 6 itself, he added.
Therefore, the petitioner moved the court, praying that the impugned order of the BDO should be handed over to the school.
