In a surprise act, the injured victims of Paramakudi violence, who are convalescing at a private hospital here, gagged their mouth with black cloth protesting against the Justice Sampath Commission of Inquiry.

The Commission of Inquiry has been appointed by the State government to inquire into the police firing at Paramakudi, which claimed the lives of six Dalits who had gathered on the anniversary of Immanuel Sekaran.

The inquiry commission headed by former judge Sampath visited the private hospital here on Wednesday, where M. Singadurai (32) of Paramakudi, R. Siva (19) of Valandur near Madurai and T. Kumar (26) of Kaattuparamakudi are being treated following High Court's direction on September 21 to shift them for better treatment.

Gunshot injuries

They are treated for gunshot injuries and multiple fractures.

Accompanied by revenue officials, Mr. Sampath went round the wards but the patients, as a symbolic protest against the State government-appointed inquiry commission, gagged their mouth with black cloth.

None of the patients spoke to him, following which he left the hospital.

CBI probe sought

Meanwhile, a few members of Mallar Kazhagam, carrying black flags and holding placards with slogans demanding CBI inquiry into the firing incident, tried to block his car but were removed swiftly by the police.

After the protest, Mr. Sampath, who was expected to visit two patients, S. Arumughasamy (32) of S. Andakudi and K. Pandi (30) of K. Valasai, at Government Rajaji Hospital did not meet them.

They had also covered their mouths with black cloth demanding CBI inquiry.
