Madurai Kamaraj University Principals Association has requested inclusion of Principals in the panels/committees formed by the university for various purposes.

At its meeting held here on October 29, several resolutions were passed on issues concerning higher education and matters related to college Principals and students. Association president P.N. Narayana Raja presided over the meeting.

Besides asking for inclusion of Principals in the university panels, the association also made a request to the university and the Chancellor to ensure that no fees was collected while sanctioning additional strength to colleges which seek additional seats for various courses.

The association, while pleading to regularise all Principal appointments at the earliest, also requested the university to permit acting Principals/in-charge to participate in the university's Academic Council meetings. Another resolution was passed welcoming the new Governor and Chancellor K. Rosiah. The association urged him to appoint Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Dean (CDC) for the university. A request was also made to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to fill teaching and non-teaching vacancies in various colleges in the State.

Laptops for students

The association also requested the government to give laptops to all students of self-finance stream and postgraduate students in aided/self-finance courses. Another plea was to issue scholarship to BC and MBC students studying in self-finance courses and self-financing colleges.


R.L. Ramnath of Sourashtra College was elected president of the association at the meeting.

While I. Ismail is the general secretary, the vice-presidents are Raja Rajan, N. Kannan (Saraswathi Narayan College) and J. Balan (Madurai Kamaraj University College).
