Implement Sethu project without delay, says DK

The Sethu Samudram project should be implemented without further delay keeping in mind the growth prospects the southern districts and the possible benefits it would fetch for the people, said Dravida Kazhagam (DK) leader K.Veeramani.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, he said the project should not be given any political colour and stalled because it was introduced by the DMK-Congress combine, he said. Expressing concern over what he termed deteriorating law and order in the state, he said the cheapest thing available in the state was human life. Hired killers murdered the people just for Rs.3,000.

The State Government’s statistics showed a fall in the number of crimes, but the police did not register FIRs in many cases and left many murders unrecorded, he alleged. Though a law was enacted for the appointment of temple archakars and 206 persons were trained for the posts in 2006, the government stalled the move making the two-decade-old struggle ineffective.

The DK cadre would stage a protest against the government’s move on August 1, he noted.

He suggested that reservation be given to children of inter-caste couples, and all reservation be made without naming any caste.

Only caste categories like the Backward Communities or the Most Backward Communities should be mentioned, he said.
