The Union government should implement the directions of the Supreme Court on cattle sale, said CPI (M) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan here on Wednesday.

Addressing reporters in Nagercoil, he urged the Centre to withdraw its ban order on sale and slaughter of cattle.

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court stayed the Union government’s ban order. The stay had now been upheld by the Supreme Court. Hence, the Centre should withdraw its ban order forthwith, Mr. Ramakrishnan said.

When the traders are yet to recover completely from the effect of demonetisation exercise, the NDA government slapped the GST, affecting match factories, cracker industries, hotel and wetgrinder industries, the leader said.

The government failed to bring petrol and diesel under the GST, because the tax imposed on petrol was 57 % and for diesel it was 53 %, Mr. Ramakrishnan alleged.

Sri Lankan government should settle the fishermen issue through negotiations and not through enacting laws, he said.

Mr. Ramarkrishnan accused the BJP of inciting communal clash to get political gain in the State. Due to the “wrong” campaign on the ban on slaughter, 29 persons were killed in 69 violent incidents took place across the nation, he alleged.
