“I’ve been blessed with music as my father and I know that not many people are as lucky,” said an emotional Karthik Raja. His words set the pace for ‘Ilaiyaraajavin Sangeetha Thirunaal,’ a music concert held in honour of music maestro Ilaiyaraaja on Saturday evening.

Crowds thronged the Tamukkam Grounds to see the maestro and to hear his hits performed by many well-known singers over the years. The concert was organised in Madurai to make the maestro’s live music performance accessible to fans from his hometown Pannaipuram who made up a huge chunk of the audience.

While Ilaiyaraaja began the concert with a soulful rendition of ‘Janani Janani,’ Vijay Prakash, Sadhana Sargam, Hariharan, Mano and Chitra followed it up by singing a number of the music maestro’s hits.

‘Ilaiyaraaja Fan Club’ (IFC) was launched on the occasion by the musician and his daughter-singer Bhavathaarini.
