A ‘Model Study Centre’ of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will start functioning in Madurai from the last week of February.

It will be a model centre for the entire Madurai Region of the university which covers 17 districts in the State and it will be directly managed by the varsity.

Besides working out the academic schedule for various courses offered by IGNOU, the model study centre in Madurai will also organise corporate training programmes.

M. Shanmugham, Regional Director, Madurai Region, told ‘The Hindu’ on Wednesday that the model centre had been sanctioned for the region as part of the university’s silver jubilee celebrations.

“The study centre will be a model to other study centres of our university. The first training programme will be launched during the end of this month,” he said.

The Madurai Region covers all southern districts, besides other places like the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Thanjavur and Tiruvarur.
