TIRUNELVELI

Unidentified persons stole five idols from Sri Azhagu Sundararaja Perumal Temple at Seevalaperi near here on Friday night.

Police said the culprits, after scaling the compound wall and breaking the lock at the main entrance of the temple, took four panchaloha idols and a brass idol. They also took offerings in the ‘hundi’ and escaped.

When the priest Kannan went to the temple on Saturday morning, the theft came to light.

Seevalaperi police who visited the spot found that one of the CCTV cameras fitted in the temple had been broken by the masked thieves. Based on the footages they could collect from the second camera, police are investigating to identify the thieves.
