Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao on Thursday appealed to the public, particularly youngsters and college students, to come up with solutions to tackle Madurai district’s problems and take it on a path of development as part of ‘New India Manthan’ announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Interacting with the gathering of faculty members and students from around 50 higher educational institutions in the district, the Collector recalled the Prime Minister’s message conveyed through the video conference he recently had with Collectors across the country to commemorate the 75th year of Quit India Movement.“The Prime Minister wants each district to come up with a vision document before Independence Day, which will include 15 objectives that can be achieved by 2022,” he said.

Mr. Rao added that the solutions could focus on solutions for any district-specific problems and also ideas that could ensure environmentally sustainable and inclusive growth. The vision document could include solutions for efficient transport options, cleanliness, organic farming, ensuring adequate drinking water supply, and other such issues. He also announced that the district administration would reward the best solution submitted by a college or a student.

A press statement from the district administration said that ideas/suggestions submitted in an appropriate manner at the Collector’s office would also be recognised with certificates.
