Hundreds of devotees thronged Lord Sundareswarar's shrine in the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple here on Thursday evening to witness the coronation of the Lord.

The coronation is performed during the Tamil month of Aavani (August-September). The Lord was adorned with vastram (attire) and jewels were placed in front of the sanctum sanctorum. The priests poured holy water on the crown and then placed it on the Lord's head.

The ceremony was performed between 7.02 p.m. and 7.10 p.m. The devotees raised their hands in veneration, to pay their respects to the divine couple.
