Madurai's employment potential was showcased at a mega job fair here on Saturday.

Nearly 7,350 jobs are on offer at the two-day fair being organised by the placement cell of Madura College and SJTCS Staffing Solutions on the college campus on February 2 and 3. Openings are available for candidates of arts and science streams, ITI, nursing and management courses.

More than 2,500 job-seekers turned up on the first day, registered their particulars, submitted their resumes and attended a selection process conducted by 42 companies. The final tally of candidates who have received their appointment orders will be known on Sunday evening.

Companies are recruiting for their offices at different locations including Madurai, Coimbatore, Chennai, Tuticorin, Tiruchi, Salem, Rajapalayam and Srivilliputhur. For instance, Omega Healthcare Management Services is on the look out for 3,000 candidates (with any degree) for its offices at Tiruchi and Chennai.

While Vee Technologies plans to recruit over 1,000 candidates to be located at Salem, Kochar Infotech has informed the job fair organisers that it has 400 openings at Chennai.

Netambit Infosource and E-Services has 320 jobs at Chennai while Muthoot Fincorp will absorb 200 candidates based on their performance in the selection process.

There are plenty of jobs available in the Madurai region as companies such as Ekgaon Technologies, Green Leaf Technologies, TVS and Sons, V. V. Minerals, Apollo Speciality Hospitals, TVS Srichakra, ING Vysya Life Insurance, Hotel Germanus, Hitech Arai, Premier Enterprises, Eureka Forbes, A. J. Square, Borg Energy, Solamalai Maruti, Solartis Technology Services, ABT and Rocher Technology Solutions are recruiting candidates. Eicher Motors at Chennai has 175 openings and is looking out for candidates with ITI qualification.

“I could see a positive response to this job fair as employment opportunities are available in and around Madurai. Our main aim was to get the students of arts and science colleges placed in companies. The emphasis was on non-software candidates,” said R. Murali, Principal, Madura College, at the inaugural function.

According to the organisers, a decent starting salary is being offered to selected candidates. Those who have completed their courses in the last four years and are looking out for jobs can attend the fair on Sunday.

An entrance fee of Rs 100 is being charged.

“Enough opportunities are available but employable hands are few in number. Do your best and get the right placement,” S. Natanagopal, Secretary, Madura College Board, advised job seekers.

A.G. S. Rambabu, former MP, D. Ramasubramanian, college president and Ragavan Ramu, Managing Director, SJTCS Staffing Solutions, Madurai, were among those who addressed the candidates at the job fair.
