The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday sought a report from the Karur district authorities on a survey conducted to remove encroachments on the lands belonging to Sri Balasubramaniaswami Temple in Karur.
A division bench of Justices M. Duraiswamy and Anita Sumanth sought information on the survey conducted on temple lands. The case has been adjourned till June 11.
The petitioner, A. Radhakrishnan of Chennai, who claimed that the lands of Sri Balasubramaniaswami Temple were encroached upon, said a status report was yet to be submitted on the survey of encroachments. He said 22 people were served notice by the temple authorities for encroaching on the temple lands.
However, a slew of petitions were filed before the court seeking direction to be impleaded in the case. The petitioners claimed that they had patta and had been enjoying the right over the lands for over 100 years. They claimed that they were yet to receive any notice for their eviction.
The court had earlier called for status report on the encroachment in the case.
The Karur Collector was directed to form an inspection team to determine the encroachments on the lands on all parameters.
