The Madras High Court Bench here on Thursday directed an Additional Public Prosecutor to obtain instructions from the police with respect to a petition filed by a woman doctor who sought police protection from M. Paranjothi, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate for Tiruchi (West) by-poll, after claiming to be his second wife.

Justice M.M. Sundresh asked the APP to obtain instructions and inform the court by Friday. The woman said that she was working as a Medical Officer with the Government Hospital at Tiruchi. She divorced her first husband, with whom she had two children, in 2004 and married Mr. Paranjothi at the Thiruverkadu Mariamman Temple in Chennai on November 10, 2008. After their marriage, the MLA candidate grabbed Rs. 60 lakh and other valuable properties on various occasions; the petitioner alleged and claimed that she was threatened with dire consequences when she demanded return of the properties.
