A single judge at the Madras High Court Bench here has ordered notice to the officials in the School Education Department on a contempt petition filed by post graduate (PG) assistants working under the Kallar Reclamation department.
Thirteen PG assistants working in Madurai, Theni and Dindigul filed the petition alleging that P. Sabeetha, the Secretary of School Education department, Ashok Dongre, the commissioner of Most Backward and Denotified Communities Welfare department, K. Devarajan, the Director of School Education and S. Selvam, the Joint Director of Kallar Reclamation department did not implement the order of the High Court.
According to them, the High Court Bench, on January 8, 2013, issued directions to the officials to consider the representation of the petitioners seeking transfers. The petitioners had approached the court after their requests for transfers to the School Education department were reportedly not considered even though the government had passed an order enabling transfer of PG assistants from Kallar Reclamation department to the School Education department.
In their contempt petition, the petitioners claimed that the officials were ‘lethargic’ in implementing the order of the court. “Despite being fully aware of the content of the judgment, the respondents (officials) have wilfully and intentionally not complied with the directions. They are deliberately disobeying the order of the High Court.”
They further stated that the officials are liable to punished for the contempt of court. Justice D. Hariparanthaman has ordered notice and has adjourned the case by two weeks.
