It was taken out from Meenakshi temple to Mahal
A ‘Heritage Walk’ was taken out in Madurai on Thursday as part of the celebrations marking World Tourism Day (September 27). Collector Anshul Mishra flagged off the rally which was organised by the Travel Club, Tourism Department and the district administration.
He also gave away pamphlets to foreign tourists with details of important heritage sites around Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple. The Collector also gave away prizes to students who had won various contests held to mark the World Tourism Day. Starting off from Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, East Tower, Pudu Mandapam, Nagaramandapam, Rayagopuram, Vittavasal, Temple Car, Kothaval Chavadi Police Station, Vilakuthoon, Ten Pillar Lane, Sethupathy Hospital, the walk finally culminated at the King Thirumalai Naick Palace. About 200 students from Annai Fathima Catering College and Oriental Catering College took part in the Heritage Walk.
R. Venkatraman, a retired Professor of Madurai Kamarajar University, explained the historical importance of various sites to them.
Travel Club president B.S.G. Musthafa also took part in the event along with P. Jayaraman, Joint Commissioner, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Department and Executive Officer of the Meenakshi temple,
In the evening, Travel Club members received international passengers who had arrived in the Spicejet flight from Colombo to Madurai and distributed to them tabletop calendars highlighting various tourist places in Madurai.
