Corporation Commissioner S. Aneesh Sekhar on Friday inaugurated the fourth edition of Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association’s (MADITSSIA’s) exhibition on traditional and herbal products.

With 60 stalls displaying an array of indigenous rare herbs from Tamil Nadu, fresh honey, skin products and even unrefined oil, organisers said that they have ensured that there is representation from all five elements of AYUSH- Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy. “In the earlier editions, Unani and Homeopathy stalls were a bit apprehensive. Now they have gained confidence,” said L. Murari, president of MADITSSIA.

Dr. Aneesh Sekhar said that a lot of Western medicine took its roots from Ayurveda. He said that he was thrilled to see the successful sale of these medicines in Madurai. With more awareness, citizens will lead healthier lifestyles.

There will be a magic show where herbs will be used to create illusions. K. Raja Murugan, the marketing executive, says that herbs have the quality to make glass pieces edible. One can even separate turmeric from water after mixing it.

Ayurvedic massages and mud baths would be provided. Free consulting, diagnosis and medication will be available for all those who visit until August 15.

S. Dhanvanthri Premvel, director, Dhanvanthri Nilayam, an Ayurvedic hospital, says that continuous research is taking place in the AYUSH sphere to integrate these age-old solutions in real time. “Obesity treatment is a trend. We focus on this treatment as it is a novelty,” he said.
