Help sought to bring body of youth from Malaysia

November 20, 2012 11:34 am | Updated 11:34 am IST - TUTICORIN:

A widow has submitted a petition to the Collector seeking his intervention to bring the body of her son, who died in Malaysia, under mysterious circumstances.

According to petitioner M. Lakshmi, a widow from Mettilpatti in Vilaaththikulam taluk in the district, her eldest son M. Muthuraj, who was working as a cook in a Malaysia-based restaurant, contacted her over phone on November 12 to inform that he would be coming to his native place shortly.

Head injury

Against this backdrop, Muthuraj’s colleague Sirajul Anwar Mohamed Abubacker contacted Ms. Lakshmi over phone on November 15 and told her that Muthuraj sustained head injury as he suffered a fall in the bathroom and that he had been admitted to the hospital.

“On the same day, the restaurant owner, Saleem, informed me over the phone that there was nothing to worry as Muthuraj was out of danger. However, we were informed around 8.40 p.m. that Muthuraj succumbed to his injuries, which happened to be the last message from the restaurant management. Hence, the district administration should take steps to bring the body of my son,” said Ms. Lakshmi.
