Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed various parts of Tuticorin on Tuesday.
It provided a big relief for people.
Roads and low-lying localities were waterlogged.
Due to poor drainage channel system, rainwater stagnated at many places.
The absence of stormwater drainage is a matter of serious concern among the public. Vehicular traffic was also affected.
The residents of Bryant Nagar and Chidambaram Nagar bore the brunt of rain as the main road was inundated.
Since there is an inordinate delay in completing the underground drainage works in the stretch, the residents are facing hardship. Most the stretch was dug up and not covered even after works were completed.
Many people had to fell off their vehicles after losing control on the ravaged road. The nagging problem remains ignored for long.
However, farmers, who rely on rainfed cultivation, were happy following the downpour in Tuticorin district.
