A special health check-up package for primary school teachers is on the anvil from Apollo Speciality Hospitals here.
The modalities for designing a new product exclusively meant for the teaching fraternity will be launched soon by the hospital in consultation with the Tamil Nadu Elementary School Teachers Association.
Rohini Sridhar, Director of Medical Services and Chief Operating Officer, Apollo Speciality Hospitals, said that a special package would be designed following a request from the Association’s senior office-bearers.
She was speaking at the inauguration of a health awareness programme for primary school teachers jointly organised by the hospital and the Association with the support of Voice Trust.
“The number of women coming for a complete health check-up is less when compared to men. If diabetes and cancer are detected early, handling of diseases will be easy,” she said on Wednesday.
Dr. Rohini Sridhar said that people are afraid to go for cancer screening test even though it is a simple procedure. “They are so hesitant that they would not even enter a cancer block. So, in our hospital, we have changed the name of the cancer block to B block. A check-up package for women is there and if required our hospital will offer more discount to help school teachers,” she added.
S. Sahadevan, State Secretary, Tamil Nadu Elementary School Teachers Association, said that teachers undergo lot of stress and they need to take care of their health. “The health insurance scheme provided by the Government should be easy to get adequate reimbursement. Our association will take up the matter with the Directorate of Elementary Education and School Education Secretary,” he told the teachers.
A special session was conducted for the teachers to create awareness regarding diet, diabetes, physical exercise and various health issues.
Dr. Krishnan Swaminathan, endocrinologist, Hemalekha, gynaecologist and S. Suganya, senior dietician, conducted the session and answered teachers’ queries.
