HC to the rescue

August 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:13 am IST - MADURAI:

The Madras High Court Bench here has come to the rescue of a physically challenged government schoolteacher and directed the Director of Elementary Education to transfer him from a school in Sivaganga district to the Panchayat Union Primary School at his native Sevalkulam in Kuruvikulam panchayat union in Tirunelveli district.

Disposing of a writ petition filed by the teacher, M. Kannan, suffering from 80 per cent disability, Justice T. Raja said it was unfair to have not transferred the petitioner ever since his appointment in 2009 on the ground that there was no vacancy though the petitioner had disputed the claim of lack of vacancy.
